Flying Ferret #24, Page 9.

That's right, you figured it, Flying Ferret is dreaming.

Not much else to say here. Right now, it's much earlier than when this blog will come out. I'm doing this page early, not only because I want to catch up again and give myself to work on printed Issue #1, but also because this weekend will be my wife's side for Christmas, and I probably won't have to spend on comic things.

What else can I talk about? Well, I'd like to to express my concerns and fears about the future of comics, specifically printed comics. Scott Adams, and my friend co-creator of Flying Ferret, Jeremy, are probably right, eventually, we'll have Kindle-like pads that we will read all our comics from, and you know, I really don't give a damn that if it's nostalgia or what-not, but it's nice to have a printed comic in your hand when the battery gives out on your electronic device. I just love the tactile feel of a comic in my hands.

But this is probably not true for current generation. So many have grown up just reading a comic online, never actually having picked up a printed comic. It doesn't help that the printed comic, mainstream ones, anyway, or so bad nowadays. Yes, artwork looks fantastic! I've looked at them in stores, and frankly, many depress me. I love the artwork in them, they outdo my by lightyears, but when I read them, they seem so... lifeless. Story-less. I've been turned off comics lately, even despite what I just said above.

I'm so of two minds on the whole thing. I fear the future (typical for me), and I miss the pass (also typical). I miss the days of good comics. I miss good Jack Kirby artwork. I miss so much. I try to recreate a little of that, recapture some of that old spirit in my Flying Ferret comics. Never sure if I ever attain it. In my mind, I think I am. I hope readers get something out of Flying Ferret.

I'm also worried that they completely leave me, never buy a printed Flying Ferret comic, never come back just because I may not put my Flying Ferret online anymore, strictly go to paper. Is that bad? Do you not like the idea (of course, who wouldn't like the idea of reading comics for free online); but I'm counting on there being several who are like me, willing to pay the money for a printed comic they liked reading online, to have that tactile object in their hand, and page through at their leisure.

So, on the one hand I feel like I'm being arrogant, thinking my stories and characters are enough to make you plunk down your hard earned money (especially hard to ask that of anyone in these times of financial hardships), but here's the thing...

Whether you do or not, is not the point, I make these comics mostly for myself. If you like them, that's great, if you like them enough to pay for them, that's even better, but in the end, the comic is ultimately for me (well, and for my brother, too, since we share the same dream), and if in the end, I'm the only one buying, then so be it.

I really hope you come along for the ride...

But, if you have a thought on this, maybe you can change my mind, I'd like to hear it. I really would. I try to listen to what everyone has to say. I mean, the site could still have Flying Ferret comics on them, covering things that are not covered in the comic, or tangents, or one-shots. I don't know. At this point, anything could happen!!

Well, best of luck. Sorry to bend your ear on this. Please, I mean it seriously, things are going to change after this issue. How? I'm not sure. In any regard, I hope you're along for the ride.

Take care .
